Mobile Client Install


Note - The instructions on this page apply to both the Bluetooth and WiFi versions of the Vectir mobile client application.

Install

There are a number of different methods for installing the Vectir client software on your mobile phone. This page outlines some of the available methods.

Bluetooth Device Requirements

Android client

In order to run the Vectir Bluetooth Android client, your mobile phone must support Android platform version 2.1 or later and Bluetooth connectivity.

Java client

In order to run the Vectir Bluetooth Java client, your mobile phone must support the Java MIDP2.0 and JSR-82 profiles. Most phones with Bluetooth support manufactured from 2005 onwards will support these requirements.

WiFi Device Requirements

Android client

In order to run the WiFi Bluetooth Android client, your mobile phone must support Android platform version 2.1 or later and WiFi connectivity.

Java client

In order to run the Vectir WiFi Java client, your mobile phone must support the Java MIDP2.0 profile. It must also support WiFi connectivity.

Android Install Options

It is recommended that you install the Vectir Android client software on your Android phone through the Android Market. Run the Android Market app on your phone then search for Vectir. Alternatively you may use some of the other install methods mentioned on this page.

Blackberry Install Options

It is recommended that you install the Vectir client software on your Blackberry through the Blackberry App World software. Install the Blackberry Blackberry App World software on your phone then search for Vectir. Alternatively you may use some of the other install methods mentioned on this page.

Over The Air (Recommended for Java phones)

If your mobile phone has internet support, you can download install the Vectir Java client direct from the Vectir wap site. Enter the following url into your phones web browser: www.vectir.com/wap/index.wml.
Select Vectir-Bluetooth-Remote.jar if you wish to use Bluetooth remote control
Select Vectir-WiFi-Remote.jar if you wish to use WiFi remote control

Nokia PC Suite

Nokia users can use the Nokia PC Suite software to install the Vectir client on their phones.

  1. Download the Vectir mobile software from:
    http://www.vectir.com/download/mobile/mobile-bluetooth-remote-control/ if Bluetooth remote control is required
    http://www.vectir.com/download/mobile/mobile-wifi-remote-control/ if WiFi remote control is required
  2. Extract the .jar and .jad files from the .zip file
  3. Open Nokia PC Suite and use the Install Applications option to install the Vectir-Bluetooth-Remote.jar or Vectir-WiFi-Remote.jar application on your Nokia phone.

Bluetooth File Transfer

Note: Your phone will need to be paired with your PC first. You will also need a Bluetooth File Transfer service installed and enabled.

  1. Download the Vectir mobile software from:
    http://www.vectir.com/download/mobile/mobile-bluetooth-remote-control/ if Bluetooth remote control is required
    http://www.vectir.com/download/mobile/mobile-wifi-remote-control/ if WiFi remote control is required
  2. Extract the Vectir client software from the .zip file
  3. In Windows Explorer, right click on the appropriate .apk file for Android phones or .jar file for Java phones then select "Send To Bluetooth->Your phone name".

Blackberry Bluetooth File Transfer

Blackberry users need to initiate a file transfer from their phone before the .jar can be sent from the PC. Follow these steps to initiate a file transfer on your Blackberry:

  1. Open Media Gallery
  2. Select Menu->Explore
  3. Open a folder you wish to transfer the Vectir-Bluetooth-Remote.jar or Vectir-WiFi-Remote.jar file into (documents for example)
  4. Select Menu->Receive Using Bluetooth. A File Transfer dialog should now be open waiting for a connection
  5. Now follow the steps above under Bluetooth File Transfer
