LG Viewty (KU990R) not connecting

Postby viewty » Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:25 pm

Hi,
I am trying to connect my LG Viewty with microsoft stack on windowsXP with latest version of vectir as of today.
i get to the point where i see my laptop name after server search, when i try to connect to the server i get an error something like "lost connection to server, click ok to retry."
on the vectir blutooth logs i see something like "expected message size 32123 recieved 121".

all default settings (automatic connection and others) are used. also have restarted and infect reinstalled all pieces of software but no use.

Much appreciate any help.
Thanks

Here are a few things to try that may help:

1. Enable the "Use flow control" option if you haven't tried this already. This option is found on the Server tab of the Bluetooth Remote control dialog.

2. Try different packet size settings (Server tab of the Bluetooth Remote control dialog). Start with 1k, then try larger values.

3. Try using a COM port connection. You need to open the Microsoft stack software, create a new COM port then open this COM port on the Server tab of the Bluetooth Remote control dialog. The next step is to set the connection type on the phone to COM Port. This is found under Settings > Connection type. When you next connect to the server, you will be presented with a list of available COM ports. Select the COM port that is open on the server.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply.

the exact error message in bluetooth log on PC is:
"Incomplete message bytes. Expected = 32768 Received = 121"

the exact error message in phone is:
"server connection
----------------------
the server connection has been lost. select OK to reconnect."

1) the flow-control has no effect (with any of the packet size) and am getting same error.
2) the change of packet-size (without flow-control) is also not making any difference, same error.
3) bluetooth settings in MS-stack already have com ports added for my phone, i tried both (incoming and outgoing) ports but as soon as i select the port number from server settings on PC the log (on PC) gives errors as follows:
" MS stack controller closed
COM27c failed to open"
the error continues untill i switch it back to "Automatic" in server setting.
if i ignore this error and continue to connect the phone i get the following error:
"no services found"
4)flow-control with com port and(default) 4K packet-size is also not working.

Hi,
I've had a look in the code and can't see any obvious reason for your problem. There must be an incompatibility between Vectir and LG phones as no users have yet reported successful operation with an LG. The fact that a connection was established and some data was transferred is promising. I'm going to try and line up an LG for testing and hopefully get things sorted. It's difficult to give an accurate estimate of when LG support will be available but I will post a message on the website when it is. I'll also try and remember to send you a message.

Thanks for posting the details of your testing - it will come in useful when adding LG support.

Hi Daniel,

Is really good to know that u took out time to figure out my problem. i had two things in mind which i wanted to discuss:

1) should i try dumping MS stack and try vectir with BlueSoleil or toshiba stack etc ? u think that might give us a chance ?
2) creating a new COM port (other then the default ones added when phone was added in system) and try that one? i am not sure if this would help but wanted to hear ur opinion about it.

Good luck for your LG support work. i will be waiting for it.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Ashfaq,

Another Bluetooth stack may help but I have an idea for something to try first. The problem you had opening the Microsoft COM port is because there was a 'c' after the COM port name. I saw this problem in Vectir v1 and it's a Microsoft bug related to reading COM port names from the registry. A new release is due within the next two days and I will update the Bluetooth plugin to trim the trailing 'c' from the COM port names. It would definitely be worth trying this before changing Bluetooth stack. I'll send you a message when it's ready.

Thanks for your patience!

Hi Ashfaq,

Version 2.2.2.0 has been updated to trim the trailing 'c' from the COM port names. Try this version with a Microsoft COM port and see if it helps.

Hopefully you have better luck this time...

Hi Daniel,

I un-installed the old version and then installed the new version.
at first i tried with the automatic setting but same error, then i used the COM port (COM28 for my phone as per bluetooth settings) with flow control with 4K packet size and here the log output from PC bluetooth server logs:

6:12:39 PM => COM28 opened
6:12:39 PM => Waiting for client connection...
6:15:03 PM => Incomplete message bytes. Expected = 32768 Received = 121
6:15:03 PM => Waiting for message
6:15:08 PM => Incomplete message bytes. Expected = 32768 Received = 121
6:15:08 PM => Waiting for message
6:15:14 PM => Client offline (com)
6:15:14 PM => Waiting for a new connection...

then i tried without flow control and 2K packet size and here is the log output:
6:17:05 PM => Incomplete message bytes. Expected = 32768 Received = 121
6:17:05 PM => Waiting for message
6:17:10 PM => Incomplete message bytes. Expected = 32768 Received = 121
6:17:10 PM => Waiting for message
6:17:16 PM => Client offline (com)
6:17:16 PM => Waiting for a new connection...

interesting thing is that i saw 5 COM28 in the list after i connected to my PC. only the first one works, on others the phone just keeps connecting to the server.. endlessly.

any ideas ?

Thanks Ashfaq,

All I can suggest now is trying another Bluetooth stack or waiting until I've managed to aquire an LG Viewty phone for testing. If you do decide to change Bluetooth stack, I would recommend checking to make sure your Bluetooth hardware is compatible with the new stack first. I would recommend Broadcomm/Widcomm or Toshiba because the BlueSoleil stack still requires a COM port connection for Vectir.

Thanks again for all of your testing and results,

Regards
