No, the question hasn't come up yet but I think this may be possible using port forwarding as you suggested.
I currently can't access my routers configuration console to test this out, but here is how I think it may work:
1. Setup port forwarding on your router to forward traffic for a specified port to the local machine running Vectir. Unless you specify a custom port in the Vectir client and server applications, you will have to use the default port number of 58687.
2. Connect your phone directly to the internet (i.e. not over a WLAN connection). Depending on which make/model of phone you are using, you may be given an option of selecting the network access point after attempting to connect from the Vectir client application.
3. Run the Vectir client application and enter the internet IP address of your router. (And custom port number if you configured this in the Vectir server and in your router)
If you manage to get this working, please let me know. I will test this out myself as soon as I get time.
